THE WRONG SIDE OF RIGHT | BOOK REVIEW

I have just finished yet again, another great book. I have a lot to say about this. I absolutely, positively, loved loved loved this book! Here's a synopsis:

Kate Quinn’s mom died last year, leaving Kate parentless and reeling. So when the unexpected shows up in her living room, Kate must confront another reality she never thought possible—or thought of at all. Kate does have a father. He’s a powerful politician. And he’s running for U.S. President. Suddenly, Kate’s moving in with a family she never knew she had, joining a campaign in support of a man she hardly knows, and falling for a rebellious boy who may not have the purest motives. This is Kate’s new life. But who is Kate? When what she truly believes flies in the face of the campaign’s talking points, she must decide. Does she turn to the family she barely knows, the boy she knows but doesn’t necessarily trust, or face a third, even scarier option?

My favorite part of this book is that the author kept it very family-oriented. Sure there was a side romance between Kate and the President's son, but the story was so much more than that. It was about family and defining what that really looks like - including all the ups and downs of it. I liked the authenticity of the family dynamic, even though it was hard to imagine (I mean it's not everyday you are the child of someone running for President).

This book warmed my heart so much. I liked that instead of writing a book about an illegitimate daughter whose long lost father disowns her and her stepmother hates her and has evil siblings, the first to actually accept her was the person you would least expect: her stepmother. I think that's really what set the tone of the book for me and why I loved it so much, because it twisted the scenario, which came together so well.

One complaint I have is that I would have loved to see more interactions between Kate and the Senator, but since I understand where the book is going and why that was not possible I have accepted that and still adore this book.

One thing that definitely surprised me was the attention to detail with the actual political campaign and the ins and outs. I was very interested because I love political science and history (as does the main character) and I loved the absolute truth that Thorne put behind the campaign and how a lot of relevant issues are not always black and white.

10/10 would recommend if you want a heartwarming story about family, and politics interest you. Not much romance, but there is still some!

I will include my favorite quote of the whole entire book that accurately sums up my love for History. I could never have said it any better.

"But in between all the facts and dates... there are lives. I feel like that's what history really is, a collection of decisions, things people did because of... I don't know. What they were afraid of or what they hoped for. I like the human side of it. It's amazing how much one person can change the world, even if they don't know they're doing it."

Until next time,
