LEARNING TO CODE | THE TEARS

A couple of days ago I decided I wanted to learn to code. At this exact moment I am definitely
regretting that decision. I am at the stage where I want to rip my hair out because it is so frustrating when you think you are using the correct html or CSS and it turns out, nope, you aren't. But it took you at least 15 minutes to just diagnose the problem and then another 15 to try and fix it. I have just started with FreeCodeCamp (which I highly recommend) and it is an awesome platform and idea, but I am getting so frustrated, so I will walk away and then come back. I know that learning something new is not easy (or more people would do it), but it's hard to stay motivated when it seems like you are getting nowhere.

I have finished my first project with them and I thought it turned out pretty good. I do have to admit I cheated a little bit and looked at the example code when I got stuck, but I did it all pretty much by myself! I am now working on a Portfolio page, which is my next project, and let me tell you it is very hard and frustrating. Coding is definitely not easy to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes fun to see that you can manipulate something and make it look awesome.

I recommend that everyone learn how to code, especially now that technology is getting so big. I am not even planning on working in the computer science field (hello, I am a history major, what?!), but it is still so useful to know. Mostly I want to be able to branch out and build my own blog design, which is why I started to learn in the first place.

I was so satisfied that I thought I should share my journey on this blog. Though it is a book blog, I thought it would be nice to share and connect with other people of the internet that are reading this and share our struggles of learning to code, or learning other new things! I will keep updating on this code situation every so often so if you want to follow my journey just keep up with the "Lifestyle" tab on my page.

Next step, mastering Photoshop. God help me.

Until next time,

Britt
